Personal Information Collection Statement 

APIA is concerned with the protection of personal data privacy. We respect personal data and are fully committed to enforcing and complying with the Data Protection Principles (“DPPs”) and the relevant provisions of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (“PDPO”).

I. Scope of Personal Data Collected or/and Held by Us
The personal data we collect and/or hold includes your contact information such as your name, age, passport or identity card number, telephone number, address, and similar information of the insured persons and their relationship with you.

II. Importance of collecting personal data 
The provision of personal data is voluntary. However, if you do not provide sufficient information, insurance brokers or other companies within the APIA Group may not be able to provide the information, products or services you request.

III. Purposes and Uses of Personal Data Collection
Your data held by APIA may be used for the following purposes:

  1. Providing services to you as a customer of APIA and any of its group companies including its branches, subsidiaries, parent companies, associated companies or affiliates;

  2. To establish and maintain contact lists;

  3. To provide you, policyholders, family members, next of kin and beneficiaries with insurance and financial related information, products or services of any policy or related options, changes, cancellations or renewals, and their claims or analysis;

  4. For identity verification and record keeping purposes;

  5. Collecting data from web browsing;

  6. compliance with laws or regulations applicable to APIA or its group companies; and

  7. (with your consent - see Section 7 below) direct marketing, including but not limited to the promotion, advertising or sale of insurance, financial or investment-related products or services offered by APIA or other companies with which APIA is associated, through electronic or other means.

IV. Confidentiality of Information 
Your data held by APIA will be kept strictly confidential but APIA may give such data to:

  1. Any agent, contractor or third party service provider who provides administrative, telecommunications, computer, billing or other services to APIA for any of the above purposes;

  2. any insurance company that has appointed APIA as its agent for the purpose of administering policies sold by APIA on behalf of the insurance company; and

  3. any branch, subsidiary, parent, related or associated company of APIA for any of the above purposes;

  4. financial institutions, credit or debit card issuers in connection with your premium payment account;

  5. any person to whom APIA or its group companies are under a duty to make disclosure under a requirement binding on APIA or its group companies by law or regulation;

  6. other persons under a duty of confidentiality to APIA; and

  7. (with your consent - see Clause 7 below) any third party product or service providers including insurance companies, insurance brokers, financial planners, wealth management advisers and commercial organizations of promotional activities for their direct marketing purposes including, but not limited to, the promotion, advertising or sale of insurance, financial, investment, health, travel, telecommunications through electronic or other modes, food and beverage, home improvement, and education related products or services.

APIA will provide your personal data for its own benefit.

V. Transfer of Data Outside Hong Kong
APIA may from time to time transfer your data outside Hong Kong for different purposes (including processing or storage).

VI. Data Access

  1. In accordance with the terms of the Privacy Ordinance, you have the right to:

    1. check whether APIA holds data about you and to access such data; and

    2. request APIA to correct any inaccurate information about you;

  2. APIA has the right to charge a reasonable fee for processing any data access request.

This Personal Information Collection Statement will form part of all contracts, agreements and other binding arrangements which you have entered into or will enter into with APIA from the date of issue of this Personal Information Collection Statement.
